Sorting Tools documentation

Sort, reverse, and mirror multi-line lists with direction, case, and numeric controls.

Last updated November 30, 2025

Why this tool exists

Sorting Tools keeps multi-line lists manageable. Alphabetize tasks, reverse agendas, or mirror text without leaving the browser.

Backlog grooming

Alphabetize or reverse meeting lists so everyone tackles the same talking points in order.

Deployment prep

Sort environment variables or YAML sections to keep diffs predictable during reviews.

Data wrangling

Sort CSV rows or JSON keys pasted into the textarea without touching spreadsheets.

Quick start

Drop your list, select utilities, and let the right column render copy-ready output for each mode.

  1. Open Sorting Tools, paste a multi-line list (or pick a preset), and keep the textarea focused as your scratchpad.
  2. Pick the utilities you need—sort lines, reverse lines, or reverse text—then set direction, case sensitivity, and numeric comparison.
  3. Submit once to refresh the outputs card for every selected utility and copy the cleaned lines directly from each textarea.

Supported inputs

  • Each newline represents one sortable item; blank lines stay in place unless you remove them before submitting.
  • Handles emoji, symbols, and long paragraphs without stripping formatting.
  • Numeric comparison treats values like 2, 10, or 101 as numbers instead of strings.

Mode 01

Utility overview

  • Sort lines keeps ordering stable and respects direction, case, and numeric toggles.
  • Reverse lines flips line order without modifying the content in each row.
  • Reverse text mirrors every character, handy for quick palindrome or obfuscation experiments.

Mode 02

Controls & presets

Pick direction, toggle case/number behavior, and lean on presets to explore common workflows.

  • Direction selector sets ascending or descending order for all sort-driven utilities.
  • Respect case keeps uppercase entries grouped separately instead of lowercasing everything first.
  • Numeric compare sorts by number value so 2 stays before 10 even if the strings differ.
  • Preset buttons load common states (alphabetize, numeric priority, reverse sprint retro) with the appropriate toggles.

Outputs

Results stay on the right column with copy buttons so you can stack utilities and paste the final versions anywhere.

  • Each utility renders a dedicated card with helper text, copy button, and readonly textarea for the cleaned list.
  • Copy buttons show confirmation states so batching multiple utilities is easy.
  • Empty states remind you to submit again whenever you adjust inputs or toggles.

Field notes

Small habits that keep list grooming fast and predictable.

  • Enable numeric comparison when sorting IDs, story points, or ticket numbers for accurate ordering.
  • Flip to descending before retrospectives or countdown-style agendas.
  • Use reverse text sparingly—it is perfect for quick novelty tasks but not for production data.
  • Pair Sorting Tools with Whitespace Utilities or Counting + Stats when preparing long-form copy decks.
Pair Sorting Tools with Whitespace Utilities or Case Converter when polishing onboarding docs, retros, or sprint agendas. Visit the documentation hub for related guides or open this page from the “View documentation” link on the tool itself.
